Scottish Contact Centres bucking the outsource trend
Scotland is escaping the mass contact centre exodus to India due to its low cost and high skills base, an influential report published this week.
The report, by the University of Strathclyde's Professor Phil Taylor and Peter Bain, will say that while many firms south of the Border have opted to relocate to India, Scotland has bucked the trend and will continue to do so. But it will also warn that Scotland has to up its game to hold on to contact centre jobs and attract offshore business process outsourcing operations that Indian companies plan to export into Europe.

Barclaycard, the credit card division of Barclays, has announced the shutting of a call center in Manchester. The bank has decided to route more customer queries to India.
The Manchester call center mostly handles customer service and sales calls for U.K. credit card customers.

BT has teamed up with communications supplier Avaya to offer a flexible call-centre service for larger customers.
The companies are targeting the finance and outsourcing sectors, and hope to corner the on-demand market in the UK, Europe and elsewhere by offering a pay-as-you-go service for corporate help desks.
