European Pharma Industry in Good Shape but Acquisitions Pose Risk - S&P

MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - Most main European pharmaceutical companies are in good shape, but acquisitions continue to be the most important reason for a potential deterioration of a company's credit quality, S&P's Ratings Services said.

For example, S&P's placement of AstraZeneca PLC's ratings on negative watch was caused by the company's debt-financed acquisition of MedImmune.

In a report, the agency noted that first-quarter revenue growth of these companies continued to beat underlying global market growth, estimated at 6-7 pct.

European spending on outsourced logistics services in the pharma industry is likely to exceed $2bn (€1.5bn) in 2011 as opportunities arise for 3PL providers who want to grab a chunk of this burgeoning market.

Analytiqa''s latest research report, "Western European Logistics 2007" predicts that logistics spend in Western Europe markets is set to grow by more than 20 per cent, with Spanish markets leading the way.

Movianto doubles 3PL capability at two sites

21 Feb 2007 - Movianto has more than doubled its pharmaceutical storage capacity at two of its European sites with the construction of two new warehouses, in answer to increased demand.

With the newly operational facilities, the third-party logistics (3PL) service provider has extended its pallet capacity in Greenogue, Ireland from 5,000 to 12,000 spaces and in Brno, Czech Republic from 3,000 to 10,500 spaces.

Novartis forms BPO pact with Genpact

Swiss giant drugmaker Novartis has signed a contract deal with services provider Genpact to outsource some of its business processes to India.

India-based Genpact will provide the pharma division of Novartis with support in accounting and purchasing activities and manage this as a global shared service, Chris Lewis.

GlaxoSmithKline, Genpact Ink Outsourcing Contract

Genpact, a business and technology services provider, has signed a multiyear contract to provide finance and accounting services for GlaxoSmithKline’s U.K. corporate business operations.

This is the third contract in two years to be signed between the pharmaceutical giant and Genpact.
